What is Binary Converter
Convert text to binary, hex and octal via UTF-8 bytes — and back the other way. The integer tab converts numbers between decimal, binary, octal and hex using BigInt, so arbitrarily large values stay exact, with optional 8-bit grouping for readability.
How to use Binary Converter
- On the Text tab, enter text or a space-separated byte string and pick the base
- On the Number tab, enter an integer and choose source/target bases
- Enable grouping to render long binary strings in 8-bit groups
Frequently asked questions
Why does "é" become 16 bits?
Text is converted via UTF-8 bytes: é encodes as 0xC3 0xA9 — two bytes, so 11000011 10101001. ASCII takes one byte per char; common CJK characters take three.
Can it handle very large integers?
Yes — number conversion uses BigInt, not 64-bit floats, so values like 2^100 convert exactly. Inputs may also carry 0b/0o/0x prefixes.
Why does my pasted binary throw an error?
Byte strings must be space-separated groups of 1–8 digits of 0/1. A non-binary digit or a group longer than 8 bits is reported with its position.
